You are lucky that google, your favourite internet search engine, provides the answer for your question. And it is free. It is Google Insight for search, a google portal where you can see what people are searching for in google search engine.

Now lets look at the google insight for search. You can leave all fields blank or with default values, simply click on "Search" and it will show you the worldwide top searches, along with the rising searches. If you want to narrow down you can filter your research by Categories, period, location, and even search type (ie web search, image search, news, and product search).
